Laurel & Hardy Way Out West (1937) DVDRip

'Way Out West' is their most popular long film (about 65 mins). Its very very funny with a number of brilliant recurring gags: The water-hole that Ollie falls into, Stan using his thumb as a lighter, and the wonderful edible hat (well for Stan anyway). Then of course there are the two wonderful song and dance routines to cap it all. Of course James Finlayson is there as well to add his inimitable DOH!

Of the shorts 'Thicker than Water' is the stand-out for me. This is one of the best of all their shorts, and they made loads. Peerless comedy of which the best sequence is the washing up in the kitchen, closely followed by the "I gave it him to give to you" routine. Again Finlayson is here to add his character to the film. It has a lovely twisted ending where after a blood transfusion the two of them get confused (literally)!

Nobody will ever match their comic genius, and this DVD is as good a representation of it as you can get.

Laurel & Hardy - Saps At Sea and Music shorts

LAUREL & HARDY DVD VOL. 11: Saps at Sea and ‘music’ shorts
Saps At Sea - 1940- The boys last film for Hal Roach in ship shape form. Superb picture and sound of a very funny L&H film. There is also an alternative colourised version of this film.
Below Zero - 1930- Original titles all round with very sharp picture and sound. One of my least favourite L&H films. There is also an alternative colourised version of this film.

Tiembla Y Titubea - 1930- Again this is the rare Spanish version of Below Zero. Wonderful to see especially for the extended and additional scenes. Print quality is very good. This is one of their shortest Spanish films at 27 minutes.

You're Darn Tootin' - 1928 (silent)- Again someone has gone to a lot of trouble replacing the main titles. Curiously these were on the previous video version by Vision Video! Print quality is excellent. The inter titles appear to be replacements. The sound track is irritating at best. I would have much preferred a Beau Hunks score but this version has obviously been timed to the musical shenanigans on screen. Print quality degenerated a bit at the shin kicking scene but reverts to excellent material thereafter.
